Wayne Alan Astbury was born in Blue Hill, Maine on July 1st, 1940. After graduating from George Stevens Academy in 1959, Astbury attended the University of Maine for one year before receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Husson College.
Astbury played baseball for Husson from 1962-1964, leaving quite a legacy as a hitter. His career .411 batting average is good for 6th on the all-time list of Husson hitters. He’s 7th all-time in on-base percentage (.485) and 8th all-time in OPS (1.013). His .556 batting average in 1962 is the 3rd-highest average in a single season, while his .623 on-base percentage in the same year ranks 6th. In 1962, Astbury had a batting average of .556 which is the 3rd highest batting average for a single-season. He on-base percentage that season was a .623 which is the fourth highest on-base percentage in a single-season. Astbury was one of the captains for that season as well.
Astbury also played basketball during the 1962-1963 season, playing in 8 games.
Following his time at Husson, Astbury coached youth baseball leagues as well as a semi-professional team in Bangor, Maine.
Astbury passed away on July 11th, 2012 in Blue Hill, Maine. He is survived by his wife Thelma, son Lance, his daughter Heather, his sister Bonnie as well as his four grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
