Dick Trott ’65 played a significant role in the early success of the Husson University men’s soccer program, helping lead the program to an 11-8-1 record in his two seasons (1962, 1964) as member of the program.
A member of the first varsity team in 1962, Trott finished his career with four goals for nine points in 20 games played as a forward for coaches Chet Dana and Averill Black.
As sophomore, Trott finished the program’s inaugural season with the second most goals and points.
In his final season on the pitch, Trott helped the Braves set a then school record with nine victories against just two setbacks, while earning the program’s second consecutive Northeast Collegiate Conference Championship and advancing to the program’s first-ever National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 32 Championship Tournament. The third seeded Braves played the defending NAIA national champions and the second seeded Spartans of Vermont State University Castleton (formerly Castleton State Teachers College) in a semifinal matchup at Dartmouth College. The Braves fell to the Spartans, 1-0, in a matchup that featured seven overtime periods. The game ended after Castleton scored on a penalty kick due to a hand ball penalty at the Braves' goal line.
After graduating from Husson in 1965, Trott went on to work as a sales representative for a national company and while doing this, he started investing, buying and selling in real estate. After several successful years of doing this, people started asking him if he would help them market their property.
In 1969, he obtained his real estate brokerage license and started listing and selling properties; mostly rural property, farms, woodlands and lakefront properties. In 1974, he opened Trot Real Estate in Bangor, Maine.
However, Trott’s biggest contribution to Husson University has been his donations to the University to help Husson transform its campus into what it looks like today. One of his many contributions helped Husson build the Clara Swan Center in 2001 as a fitness and performance testing center for students. The Swan Center houses the Richard and Alice Trott Fitness Studio.
Trott was joined in the Husson University Sports Hall of Fame with his daughter, Leslie Trott '02, when she was inducted into the hall of fame as a member of the class of 2019. They are the first father and daughter members of the hall of fame the second seeded and is very involved with Husson as a member of the Board of Trustees.
A native of Bangor, Maine, Trott attended Bangor High School.
