Thomas "Tom" Coughlan '64 was a two-sport athlete at Husson, playing one season of soccer for Chet Dana in 1963 and two seasons of basketball for hall of fame member Del Merrill '54, '85H from 1963-1964.

In his two seasons as a member of the men's basketball program, Coughlan tallied 480 points and 360 rebounds in 36 career games played while shooting 46.9 percent (203-433) from the floor and 59.7 percent (74-124) from the free throw line. Coughlan averaged 13.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in his career.

At the end of his playing days, Coughlan ranked among the program's top-15 career leaders in points (12th), field goals made (203, 12th) and rebounds (eighth) while holding the single-game records for free throws made (10 vs Ricker in 1963-1964) and rebounds with 22 at the University of New Haven (formerly New Haven College) on February 13, 1964.

The 6-3 starting center helped the Braves capture back-to-back Northeast College Conference Championships in 1962-1963 and 1963-1964.

The senior captain was named the 1963-1964 Nelson Degrasse Award winner after averaging 15.5 points and 10.9 rebounds per game during the season.

In this one season on the Braves' pitch, Coughlan posted a 1.14 goals against average and a .897 save percentage with eight goals allowed and 70 saves in 630 minutes in seven games. He also record a pair shutouts at the University of Maine at Presque Isle (formerly Aroostook State Teachers College) and at the University of Maine at Farmington (formerly Farmington State Teachers College).

Thanks to his outstanding play as the Braves' starting goalkeeper in 1963, Husson posted a 6-1 record with an unblemished record in conference play en route to capturing the program's first-ever conference championship.

Coughlan earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Husson in 1964.

Coughlan was inducted posthumously.
