Corey Pion ‘03 was a two-sport athlete at Husson University, earning five varsity letters from 1999-2003. Pion played one season of baseball in 1999 for hall of fame member John "JK" Kolasinski '85, but his true passion was on the Braves’ links where he played golf for hall of fame member Bruce MacGregor from 2000-2003.

On the golf course, the 2002-2003 Sunrise Conference Golfer of the Year entered the hall of fame with a career scoring average of 77.34 over 83 rounds played with a career win-loss record of 1942-590 (.767). Pion won 12 events and finished in the top-10 in 40-of 55 tournaments while adding 34 top-5 finishes.

At the time of his induction, the four-time all-conference first team honoree ranked among the program’s top-10 career leaders in scoring average (fifth), individual tournament victories (first), top-5 finishes (first), top-10 finishes (second), par or better rounds (nine, second), rounds played (first), overall wins (third) and winning percentage (ninth). He also held the single-season records for individual tournament victories (six in 2000-2001), top-5 finishes (11 in 2000-2001), top-10 finishes (13 in 2000-01), overall wins (595 in 2000-2001) and the program’s records for the lowest round and low round vs. par when he shot a six-under par 66 on the par-72 Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, Maine during the Maine Athletic Conference Scrimmage on September 29, 2001.

He also qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament as an individual during his sophomore season (2000-2001), finishing tied for 82nd with a school-record 72-hole score of 307. At the time of his induction, Pion still held the record for the lowest 72-hole score.

He was also a two-time State of Maine Intercollegiate All-State golfer and a NAIA All-Region 10 honoree while being named a Sunrise Scholar Athlete in 2002-2003.

Additionally, Pion was the first golfer in program to earn New England Intercollegiate Golf Coaches Association All-New England honors twice and in back-to-back years in 2000-2001 and 2001-2002.

During his four-year career, the two-time captain helped Husson post an overall record of 369-93 (.799) with one Sunrise championship, three MAC championships, three State of Maine Intercollegiate Championships, two NEIGA division III championships and three trips to the NAIA national tournament.

In his one year of play on the Braves’ diamond, Pion helped lead Husson to 18 wins and a MAC runner-up finish.

The right-handed pitcher finished the 1999 season with three wins and a 4.95 earned run average in 32.2 innings, while tallying 12 strikeouts and limiting opponents to a .279 batting average. Pion also tossed three complete games in 10 career appearances with four starts.

Pion earned a bachelor of science in business administration with an emphasis in sports management from Husson in 2003.

A native of Vassalboro, Maine, Pion attended Waterville Senior High School.
