Jeremy Nelson, DPT ’00, ’01, ‘11 was a two-sport athlete at Husson University, earning eight varsity letters from 1997-2001.

Regarded as one of the best defenders in Husson University men's soccer program history, Nelson helped the Braves post a 46-22-5 (.664) win-loss mark in a four-year stretch playing the sweeper role for coaches Mitch Ellison and Nate Benoit from 1997-2000. He contributed to two Maine Athletic Conference Championships and berths into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championship in 1997 and 1998.

As a sophomore, Nelson helped the Braves capture the program’s first conference championship in 16 years, posting a 16-4-1 record overall and an 8-0 mark in conference play. The same year, Husson recorded the program’s first-ever NAIA national tournament win, with a 3-2 double overtime upset victory over nationally ranked Houghton University (formerly known as Houghton College) in the semifinals of the NAIA northeast regional championship. Following the season, Nelson was named an honorable mention All-American by the NAIA while being selected to the NAIA all-northeast team.

The 2000 MAC all-conference first team player recorded four goals and two assists for 10 points off 22 shots over his career while leading a Husson defense the produced 26 shutouts during his career - the fifth most shutouts over a four-year span in program history at the time of his induction.

On the diamond, the two-time all-conference selection earned 14 wins and posted a 4.53 earned run average in 172.2 innings, while tallying 114 strikeouts and limiting opponents to a .262 batting average in 36 career appearances for hall of fame member John "JK" Kolasinski '85 from 1997-1998, 2000-2001. Nelson tossed 11 complete games and one shutout in 30 career starts while averaging 5.94 strikeouts per nine innings in his career with a 1.62 walks and hits per inning pitched average.

At the time of his induction, the right-handed pitcher ranked among the program's top-25 career leaders in wins (tied for ninth), appearances (tied for 11th), games started (fifth), complete games (tied for 10th), shutouts (tied for 18th), innings pitched (10th) and strikeouts (16th).

The 1998 NAIA all-district 5 pick helped the Braves capture two MAC championships in 1997 and 1998 with two NAIA New England runner-up finishes in 1997 and 2000. During his career, Husson posted an overall record of 89-70 (.560) with a 34-14 (.708) mark in conference play.

Nelson earned a bachelor of science in health science from Husson in 2000 and a master's degree in physical therapy in 2001. While later completing his doctorate of physical therapy from Husson in 2011.
