The first National Collegiate Athletics Association era golfer to enter the Husson University Sports Hall of Fame, Kevin Byrne '12 won six events and finished in the top-10 in 25-of-38 tournaments overall from 2008-2011.
The 2009 North Atlantic Conference Golfer of the Year helped the Eagles post a 392-142 (.794) record and win 27 tournaments, including four NAC championships, a New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship and three State of Maine Intercollegiate Championships with four trips to the NCAA division III national championship during his four years of playing golf for coach Ed Meo, coach Jason Harvey '07 and hall of fame member Bruce MacGregor.
In his four-year career, Byrne was a three-time All-NAC first team player, a three-time Maine Intercollegiate All-State golfer, a 2008 NEIGA All-New England honoree, and the program's first-ever Eagle Award winner in 2010.
Byrne entered the hall of fame with a career scoring average of 78.41 over 60 rounds and a career win-loss record of 1494-290 (.837). At the time of his induction, he ranked among the program's NCAA era career leaders in scoring average (16th), medalist honors (tied for fourth), top-5's (fifth), top-10's (fifth), wins (12th) and winning percentage (11th).
The two-year captain produced his best season on the links in 2009, averaging 75.73 over 15 rounds during his junior year en route to the third best win-loss percentage (387-15, .963) in the program's NCAA era. His 15 losses that he received during the season, ranked him second all-time in the program's NCAA era for the fewest losses in a season - at the time of his induction.
His career-low 18-hole score came during his magical 2009 season, when he fired a 69 on day two of the State of Maine Intercollegiate Championship to earn medalist honors with a 149 (80-69) card, while his career-low 36-hole score of 142 (70-72) happened three weeks later at the NAC championship.
Byrne earned a bachelor of science in accounting and a master's degree in business administration from Husson in 2012.
A native of Winslow, Maine, Byrne attended Winslow High School.
