Thorne played for three years as Husson won the NAIA District 5 championship each time and qualified for the national tournament. Thorne was the medalist at nine tournaments, and played as the No. 3 golfer on a strong team.

"Tom was an outstanding player," said MacGregor. "He was a leader and understood how to manage a golf course. All three of his coaches nominated him for this honor."
