Jon Benson '10 is regarded as one of the best offensive linemens the Husson University football program has ever produced. He was a four-year letterwinner from 2005-2006, 2008-2009 playing for coach Gabby Price and coach Niles Nelson.
Benson played on the defensive line in his first-year as a member of the football program. He finished his rookie campaign with 15 total tackles (11 solos, four assists), one and a half tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble in six games on the Eagle D-line, before being switched to the offensive line for his final three seasons.
The 2009 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference First Team right tackle helped lead the Eagles to a program best 7-3 mark at the time, in 2008, advancing to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast Bowl Game, the program’s first-ever postseason appearance.
Following the historic 2008 season, Benson was named to the New England Football Writers DII/III All-New England squad, joining Matt Benson as the only offensive lineman in program history up to this point to earn NEFW All-New England honors.
In his final season, Benson captained an offensive line that only allowed the opponent to sack the Husson quarterback five times, the second lowest sacks allowed in program history at the time of his induction, while becoming first offensive lineman in program history to serve as team captain for two years.
He was also a key member of a Husson offensive line that blocked for hall of fame members Julius “Juice” Williams ‘11 and Justin Lindie ‘11.
Benson finished his career with 20 total tackles (13 solos, seven assists), a sack, a forced fumble and one and a half tackles for loss in 36 career games played.
