Steph Shaw ‘95 was a two-sport athlete at Husson University, earning six varsity letters from 1992-1995.

Regarded as one of the best all-around forwards in Husson University women’s basketball program history, the two-time Maine Athletic Conference All-Conference selection finished her career with 928 points, 150 assists, 585 rebounds, 234 steals and 35 blocks, while shooting 44.3 percent (367-828) from the floor, 63.6 percent (192-302) from the free throw line in 112 career games played for hall of fame member Kissy Walker ‘03G from 1992-1995. Shaw averaged 8.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game in her career.

At the time of her induction, the 1994-1995 Maine Athletic Intercollegiate Association for Women All-State Second Team honoree ranked I the top-25 in Husson women’s basketball history in points (16th), field goals made (12th), field goals attempted (16th), field goal percentage (13th), free throws made (13th), free throws attempted (11th), free throw percentage (19th), rebounds (tied for seventh), blocked shots (tied for 13th), steals (fourth), steals average (tied for sixth) and games played (fifth). Shaw also held the single-season record for games played (31 in 1992-1993).

The two-time captain helped the Braves post a 90-24 (.789) overall record, including a 31-7 (.816) mark in conference play. She contributed to two Western Maine Athletic Conference Championship in 1991-1992 and 1992-1993, one MAC championships in 1994-1995, one National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 5 title in 1992-1993 and two berths into the NAIA national championship in 1992-1993 and 1994-1995. Additionally, she helped the 1992-1993 team earn a trip to the NAIA division II national championship Fabulous Final Four in Monmouth, Oregon, the longest postseason run of any athletics team in Husson University history - at the time of her induction.

Shaw was the fourth member of the 1993 women's basketball team - that was inducted into the hall of fame in 2011 as a team - to be inducted as an individual, joining Walker, assistant coach Sharron Siebert ’91, Vicki Mazerall '93, Kristi Wildman ‘93, Darci Collins ‘93, Amy Dyer ’95, Stacy Hafford ’95 and Tara Leavitt ’96.

One of the best hitting catchers in Husson University softball program history, Shaw hit .429 (67-156) with 54 runs scored, 12 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs, 79 RBI and 26 stolen bases in 45 career games played for coach Shannon Whiting ’86, ‘91G from 1992-1993. She also posted a .510 on-base percentage, a .731 slugging percentage and a stolen base percentage of .867.

At the time of her induction, Shaw ranked among the program’s top-25 career leaders in hits (23rd), doubles (18th), triples (tied for fifth), home runs (second), RBI (eighth), total bases (114, 15th), walks (31, tied for 20th), stolen bases (15th), stolen base attempts (tied for 13th), stolen base percentage (11th), walks (31, tied for 20th), batting average (second), slugging percentage (second) and on-base percentage (second). She was also the co-record holder for most home runs in single-game when she became the first player in program history to hit two against Swarthmore College in 1992.

Shaw enjoyed a fine season as freshman as she lead the team in batting average (.486), at bats (74), hits (36), RBI (37), doubles (7), triples (3), home runs (4), total bases (61), on-base percentage (.544) and slugging percentage (.824) while becoming the first player in team history to drive in 40 runs as a sophomore in route to being selected to the NAIA all-district 5, MAIAW all-state and WMAC all-conference first teams.

At the conclusion of her playing career on the diamond, Shaw held the program’s single-season records for home runs (four in 1992), RBI (42 in 1993) and total bases (61 in 1992). Additionally, her 1992 batting average and on-base percentage rank as the fourth highest in program history while her .824 slugging percentage from her 1992 season sits second all-time at Husson - at the time of her induction.

Despite only playing softball for two seasons, she led the Braves to a 40-18 (.690) overall record and an 8-4 (.667) mark in conference play with two appearances in the NAIA district 5 championship tournament.

Shaw graduated from Husson in 1995.

A native of Pittsfield, Maine, Shaw attended Maine Central Institute.
