One of the most intimidating players ever to swing the bat in Husson University baseball program history, Troy Martin ’95 played outfield for hall of fame member John "JK" Kolasinski '85 from 1992-1995.
The four-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-District 5 honoree hit .386 (181-469) with 181 runs, 30 doubles, 12 triples, seven home runs, 115 RBI and 68 stolen bases in 130 career games. He also posted a .455 on-base percentage, a .546 slugging percentage and a stolen base percentage of .861.
Upon graduation, the two-time Maine Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team selection was the program’s all-time career leader in at bats (469), runs scored, hits (181), doubles, triples, RBI, total bases (256), stolen bases and stolen base attempts (79). Additionally, he was the single-season leader in games played (45 in 1995), hits (69 in 1995), doubles (13 in 1995), triples (5 in 1993 and 1995), RBI (50 in 1995) and total bases (101 in 1995) He was also the program’s record holder for most stolen bases in a single-game when he swiped four bases at home against the University of Maine at Farmington on April 23, 1995.
At the time of his induction, Martin ranked among the program’s top-10 career leaders in at bats (sixth), runs scored (seventh), hits (fifth), triples (fourth), RBI (tied for fourth), totals bases (fourth), times hit by pitch (12, tied for ninth), stolen bases (second), stolen base attempts (second). He also held the program’s single-season record for games played, the single-game record for stolen bases and the second longest hitting streak (28 games).
As a senior, Martin put together one of the best seasons in Husson University baseball history on his way to become the first player in program history to be named conference player of the year. He tallied a .429 average with 69 hits, 43 runs, 13 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 50 RBIs. He earned NAIA all-district 5, All-MAC and NAIA all-northeast regional first team honors, and was the NAIA district 5 player of the year. Additionally, Martin was selected to the NAIA All-American honorable mention team.
Husson won 73 games over his four-year career, capturing the Western Maine Athletic Conference Championship in 1993, the MAC championship in 1994 and 1995 and two NAIA New England Championships in 1993 and 1995 with two berths into the NAIA national tournament in 1993 and 1995.
The two-time captain was the third member of the 1995 Baseball Team - that was inducted into the hall of fame in 2015 as a team - to be inducted as an individual, joining Kolasinski, assistant coach Frank Peckham '93, Bill Swift ‘95, Mark Hreben '96, Sandy McCuaig ’98 and Roy Peary '98 as individual members of the Husson University Sports Hall of Fame.
Martin graduated from Husson in 1995.
A native of Waterville, Maine, Martin attended Waterville Senior High School.
