Emily Walker ’00 was a prolific student-athlete at Husson, earning five varsity letters in two sports from 1996-1998 after transferring from Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College) following her first year of college. She played one season of softball for coach Bob Ackley in 1998, but her true passion was on the Braves' hardwood where she starred for hall of fame member Kissy Walker '03G for three seasons.
E. Walker finished her basketball career with 1,208 points, 492 rebounds, 129 steals, 100 assists and 99 blocks, while shooting 54.4 percent (510-938) from the floor and 66.2 percent (188-284) from the free throw line in 82 career contests. She averaged 14.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1.6 steals per game in her career.
At the time of her induction, the senior captain ranked among the program's top-25 career leaders in points (eighth), scoring average (tied for fifth), field goals made (fifth), field goal percentage (first), free throws made (19th), free throw percentage (23rd), rebounds (15th), rebounding average (15th), blocked shots (tied for fifth) blocked shots average (seventh), steals (tied for 22nd) and steals average (tied for 15th). She also held the single-season record for field goal percentage (.586 in 1997-1998) and the single-game record for field goal percentage after shooting 93.8 percent when she went 15-for-16 at home against Caldwell University (formerly Caldwell College) on Dec. 7, 1997.
At the end of her playing time, the 5-11 forward was also the co-record holder for most points scored in a single game (36 points at Westbrook College on Jan. 31, 1996) and for the most field goals made in a single game when she made 15 at home against Caldwell on Dec. 7, 1997.
Upon her graduation from Husson, E. Walker accumulated numerous accolades throughout her career. She was selected to the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-State twice, earning first team honors in 1997-1998. She was voted to the Maine Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team twice, in addition to being named the MAC player of the year in 1997-1998. Walker was also named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American Third Team and to the Fast Break All-American honorable mention following her senior campaign.
On the diamond, E. Walker hit .380 (35-92) with 35 hits, 34 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, four home runs and 32 RBIs in 32 games played, earning MAC all-conference honors.
E. Walker posted a combined record of 72-43 (.626) overall record with a 37-9 (.804) mark in conference play. Additionally, Walker competed in two conference championships with one MAC title and one NAIA tournament berth.
After being a three-year member of the Husson women’s basketball program as a student-athlete, E. Walker spent two seasons as a member of K. Walker’s coaching staff. During her time as an assistant coach, she helped the Braves capture one MAC championship in 1998-1999, while working with hall of fame members Kelly A. Dow ’00, Liza Doughty '00, '03 and Leslie Trott '02.
E. Walker earned a bachelor of science in nursing from Husson in 2000.
