Teacher, coach and Athletic Director at Old Town High School for 43 years. Assistant Coach on '52 & '57 boys State Championship basketball teams. In addition to basketball he won three State Championships in cross country and also coached baseball, football, and track and had a 63 game winning streak as the JV baseball coach. He was a charter member of Maine’s Athletic Director Association. He was a member of U-Maine’s ‘M’ Club. Member of the first ever football team at Husson. Served as President of Old Town Little League. Served as President of the Old Town Education Association. Spent 20 years as the Old Town Parks and Recreation Director. The gymnasium at Old Town High School is named in his honor. Constructed in 1952, the gym was first dedicated to Bernard MacKenzie in 1976 in recognition of his many years of service (1945-1976) to Old Town High School and it was rededicated to Mr. MacKenzie in November of 2000.
