Rick Sinclair ‘96 was a two-sport athlete at Husson University, earning eight varsity letters from 1993-1996 and 2001. Sinclair played four seasons of golf for hall of fame member Bruce MacGregor from 1994-1996 and 2001, but his true passion was on the Braves’ hardwood where he was a one of the premier interior players in men’s basketball program history. He played center/forward for hall of fame members Bruce MacGregor and Warren Caruso ’89, ‘08G, ‘18G from 1993-1996.
On the hardwood, Sinclair finished his career with 1,146 points, 585 rebounds, 95 steals, 103 assists and 165 blocks in 104 games played, while shooting 47.0 percent (416-885) from the floor, 37.7 percent (167-443) from the 3-point line and 78.2 percent (147-188) from the free throw line. He averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.6 blocks per game in his career.
At the time of his induction, Sinclair ranked among the program’s top-25 career leaders in 3-point field goals made (seventh), 3-point field goals attempted (seventh), 3-point field goal percentage (ninth), free throw percentage (17th), blocked shots (first) and blocked shots average (first).
As a senior, Sinclair averaged 21.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while becoming the sixth player in program history to score 600 or more points in a single-season when he tallied 634 points in 30 games played en route to collecting National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American Honorable Mention, Maine Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team and Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association All-State First Team honors. He was also selected to play in the MMBCWA senior all-star game.
Additionally, Sinclair earned MAC All-conference second team honors after averaging 13.2 points and 6.4 rebounds during his junior season.
The senior captain helped guide the Braves to two MAC championships and two NAIA national tournament berths in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994. During his varsity career, Husson posted a record of 93-35 (.727).
On the links, Sinclair entered the hall of fame with a career average of 81.33 over 21 rounds played with a career win-loss record of 447-144 (.756). He won the 2000-2001 University of Southern Maine Invitational after shooting a career-low 69 and finished in the top-10 in 9-of-14 tournaments he played in while adding two top-5 finishes.
During his four-year career, the 2000-2001 State of Maine Intercollegiate All-State golfer helped Husson post an overall record of 151-52 (.799) with one MAC championship and one State of Maine Intercollegiate Championship. He also helped the Braves finished as the NAIA district 5 runner-up in 1993-1994 and the MAC championship runner-up in 1993-1994 and 1995-1996.
Sinclair earned a bachelor of science in business administration with an emphasis in sports management from Husson in 1996.
A native of Hermon, Maine, Sinclair attended Hermon High School.
