A transfer from the University of Maine, Joe Alvarez '02 played one season of golf for hall of fame member Bruce MacGregor and produced one of the best performances in Husson University men's golf program history.

In his one year of play, Alvarez helped lead the Braves to a 100-23 record, including a 76-2 mark in the Fall that helped propel Husson to a top-25 ranking for the first time in program history, reaching as high as No. 20.

Alvarez finished the 2001-2002 season with an average of 74.62 over 21 rounds played and a win-loss record of 621-64 (.907). He won five events and finished in the top-10 in 12-of-14 tournaments en route to being named the 2002 Maine Athletic Conference Golfer of the Year.

The 2002 MAC all-conference first team honoree carded a season-low 36-hole score of 143 at the 2002 MAC championship, which helped the Braves capture their third straight MAC crown. Alaverz's three-under par-67 at the Terrier Invitational was the lowest 18-hole round of the season.

At the time of his induction, Alvarez's lone season ranked in the top-10 among program's single-season leaders in scoring average (second), medalist honors (tied for fourth), top-5 finishes (nine, tied for fifth), top-10 finishes (tied for second) and overall wins (fifth). He also held the program's lowest 54-hole score of 226, which earned him a top-15 finish at the 2001-2002 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championship.

As a result of his top-15 finish at the NAIA national championship, Alvarez earned NAIA All-American first team honors, becoming the first golfer in program history to be selected to the first team and the first men's golf All-American since Mike Norris '83 earned the prestigious honors in 1979.

He also collected NAIA all-region 10, Maine Intercollegiate All-State and New England Intercollegiate Golf Association All-New England honors.

Alvarez earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Husson in 2002.

A native of South Berwick, Maine, Alvarez attended Marshwood High School
