The 1988-1989 men’s basketball team coached by hall of fame member Bruce MacGregor and assisted by hall of fame member Warren Caruso '89G, 08G, '18G, Neil Waterman, Marcel Whitney and Russell O’Downs produced one of the most dominating seasons in program history, while becoming the first men's team in program history to be ranked nationally - reaching as high as No. 4.

Husson began the season by reeling off 16-straight wins to open the season, the third longest undefeated streak in program history at the time of their induction, while producing the longest such streak in 18 years. The team picked up victories over the University of New Brunswick (twice), Acadia University, St. Francis Xavier University, Unity College, Cape Breton University, the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the University of Maine at Augusta, Maine Maritime Academy, Saint Joseph's College of Maine, Vermont State University Lyndon (formerly Lyndon State College, twice), Vermont State University Castleton (formerly Castleton State College), the University of Maine at Machias (twice) and the University of Maine at Farmington.

At the time of their induction, the Braves set a school record with 35 victories against just three setbacks, while capturing he Western Maine Athletic Conference title, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 5 title and advancing to the NAIA national championship tournament. The Braves entered the NAIA national tournament as the number four ranked team in the country and the six seed overall, but lost in the first round to St. Ambrose University (Iowa) by one point, 89-88, ending a historic season for Husson.

At the time of their induction, the 1988-1989 team held the single-season school records for points (3,860), field goals made (1,531), field goals attempts (3,084), 3-point field goal percentage (43.9 percent), rebounds (1,766), assists (988), steals (561) and 100-point games with 22. The team also averaged over 101.0 points per game while outscoring their opponents by an average of 35 points.

A total of seven individual Husson University Sports Hall of Fame members helped comprise the 1988-1989 squad, including Mark Taylor '91, Buster Frederick '91, Shawn Bolden '89, Bobby Campbell '92, Kevin Hansley '90 and Scott Nance '92. The team was captained by Hansley, Bolden, Frederick and Taylor, and other team members included: Mamadou Kone '90, Peter Cace '89, Steve Weeks '90, Herbert Melanson '91, Bruce Grainger '90, Ed Leeman '90, Steve Novak, Paul Sullivan, Doug Bethea and John Ferry '88.

Five Players collected post season accolades - Taylor was named to the NAIA All-American Honorable Mention squad, Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association All-State First Team, NAIA all-district 5 first team, the WMAC all-conferece first team while earning player of the year honors from the WMAC and the NAIA district 5. Frederick collected NAIA all-district 5 first team, MMBCWA all-state first team and All-WMAC first team honors and was named to the NAIA district 5 senior all-star team. Bolden earned MMBCWA all-state second team honors. MacGregor was chosen as the WMAC coach of the year. The 1988-1989 team was honor as the MMBCWA team of the year.
