One of the elite starting pitchers in Husson University baseball history, Matt Dutille ’93 played for hall of fame member John "JK" Kolasinski '85 from 1990-1993.
In 40 career appearances on the mound, Dutille posted a 19-9 win-loss record and a 2.90 earned run average in 207.2 innings, while tallying 225 strikeouts and limiting opponents to a .220 batting average. He tossed 15 complete games in 33 career starts to go along with a save.
Upon graduation, the right handed pitcher ranked among the program’s top-25 career leaders in wins (third), saves (tied for sixth), appearances (first), games started (first), complete games (third), innings pitched (second), (third), earned run average (17th), opponent batting average (22nd), strikeouts per nine innings (9.75, 11th), hits allowed per nine innings (7.63, tied for 19th) and winning percentage (.679, 15th).
At the time of his induction - Dutille remained ranked among the program's top-25 career leaders in wins, saves, appearances, games started, complete games, innings pitched, strikeouts, earned run average, strikeouts per nine innings, opponent batting average, hits allowed per nine innings and winning percentage.
Additionally, he was the third pitcher in program history to punch-out 200 or more career batters and the first to accomplish this feat in over 22 years.
He posted one of the best pitching performances in program history as senior, going 5-2 with a 2.58 earned run average in 59.1 innings while tallying 83 strikeouts and tossing four complete games. He also allowed the opponent to hit .187 off of him while averaging 12.59 strikeouts per nine innings pitched - the 12th best strikeout per nine average in a single-season in program history at the time of his induction. Dutille’s outstanding senior season helped lead the Braves to a Western Maine Athletic Conference Championship, the program’s first National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 5 Championship in 17 years while making their first appearance in the NAIA national championship tournament since the 1973 season.
Following the season, Dutille earned NAIA all-district 5 and all-northeast regional honors, and was named a NAIA honorable mention All-American. In addition to, Dutille was the first pitcher in program history to earn All-American status and to be named to the NAIA All-northeast regional team.
He also was named to the NAIA all-district 5 team in 1991 and 1992 and was selected to play in the 1992 NAIA district 5 all-star game.
Dutille combined with Peter Allen to record the program’s 10th no-hitter and the first in eight years during his sophomore season against the University of Maine at Farmington on May 9, 1991 in game two of the NAIA district 5 championship tournament.
Husson won 62 games over his four-year career, including earning the program’s first-ever victory over National Collegiate Athletics Association Division I member the University of Maine, a 7-0 shutout victory on April 21, 1993.
Dutille graduated from Husson in 1993.
A native of Lebanon, New Hampshire, Dutille attended Lebanon High School.
