BANGOR, Maine — Husson University Executive Director of Athletics Christopher Parsons has announced the hiring of Sue Medley as the school's new head women's volleyball coach.

Medley brings decades of coaching and leadership experience at the collegiate, club and national levels to Bangor. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation as a passionate teacher of the game, a mentor to student-athletes and coaches, and a strategic program builder.

"Sue brings extensive collegiate coaching experience, including serving as head coach at the University of Maine, where she built the program from its inception and led the team to the America East Championship match in just its second year," said Parsons. "She also previously served as Head Coach at Cornell University and has coaching experience at Kansas State and Saint Mary's College."

"In addition to her coaching background, Sue has spent many years working as a strategic consultant with universities, athletic programs, and organizations, focusing on leadership development, program evaluation, and strategic planning," Parsons continued. "Throughout the search process, it was clear that Sue brings the experience, leadership, and vision to help move Husson Women's Volleyball forward while supporting the growth and success of our student-athletes."

Medley most recently served as the principal and lead consultant for Gladjean Consulting in Bangor, where she worked with athletic departments, coaches and teams across multiple NCAA levels to improve leadership, communication and competitive success. In that role, she also became a certified DISC behavior analyst, helping programs develop stronger team culture and leadership structures.

In addition to her consulting work, Medley has held numerous leadership roles within volleyball development programs. She served as the director of the IREVA Regional High Performance Program for USA Volleyball from 2006 to 2019, where she helped identify and develop top youth talent in the region. During her tenure, the program mentored hundreds of athletes who went on to compete at the collegiate level.

Medley also has significant experience at the NCAA Division I level. She served as the head volleyball coach at the University of Maine from 1999 to 2004, where she helped establish the university's first Division I volleyball program. During her time with the Black Bears, her teams produced an America East Player of the Year, multiple all-conference selections and dozens of academic honor roll recipients.

Prior to her time in Orono, Medley was the head coach at Cornell University from 1994 to 1998, leading the program to a first-place regular season conference finish and a 20-win season while producing numerous all-league and academic award winners. Earlier in her career, she also served as an assistant coach at Kansas State University and as the head volleyball coach at Saint Mary's College in Indiana.

"I am incredibly excited to join Husson University and lead its women's volleyball program," said Medley. "I thank God and my family for everything. I especially want to thank Executive Director of Athletics, Chris Parsons, the Husson Athletics Department and the Husson community for the opportunity to work alongside people with a passion for developing collegiate student-athletes. Husson University strives for excellence and so will our volleyball program. I am honored by this opportunity and cannot wait to develop a successful volleyball program at Husson University and continue the development of volleyball in the great state of Maine."

Medley earned her master's degree in financial economics from the University of Maine, an MBA in international business from Kansas State University and a bachelor's degree in government and international relations from the University of Notre Dame, where she was also a volleyball student-athlete.
