Women's Lacrosse Drops Conference Game to Castleton, 16-7

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University Women's Lacrosse Team (3-5, 3-2 NAC) loses to Castleton University (5-6, 3-0 NAC) at Boucher Field on Saturday afternoon.

1st Half: Castleton jumped out to a two goal lead with goals by Erin Shuttle (Georgia, Vt.) and Emma Best (Salisbury, Vt.). The Eagles responded with four unanswered goals including two goals in a span of five seconds as Amanda Deshaies (Wells, Maine) scored then assisted on Paige Daigle's (Bath, Maine) goal as the Eagles tie it at two. Deshaies would add her second goal of the game before Korallei Fifield (Woolwich, Maine) made it 4-2 Husson with 13:31 left in the first half. The Spartans would respond with three unanswered goals of their own to make it 6-4. Daigle would add her second goal of the game to end the half with the score 6-5 Castleton.

2nd Half: Castleton scored the first seven goals of the half including two goals each by Nadine Downing and Emily Cross as the Sparants led 13-5. Maddy Olsen (Phippsburg, Maine) scored with 15:52 remaining in the half to give the Eagles their first goal of the second half, making it 13-6 Castleton. Castleton would follow that up with two more goals before Olsen added her 2nd of the game. Shuttle added the final goal of the game to make it 16-7 Castleton.

Leaders - HUSSON

  • Goalie Mallory Burchill (Kennebunk, Maine) recorded 15 saves on 31 shots.

  • Deshaies and Olsen each finished with two goals and an assist, while Deshaies recored her 18th career free position goal becoming Husson all-time career leader.

  • Daigle had two goals.

Leaders - CASTLETON

  • Goalie Samantha Hebb (Ashland, Mass.) recorded six saves on 13 shots.

  • Shuttle finished with fives goals.

  • Best, Cross, and Downing each had three goals.

Team Stats

Castleton outshot Husson 36-16 with 31 being on target to Husson's 13. Husson won the draw control battle 13-12 while Castleton recorded 34 ground balls to Husson's 23.
