BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's lacrosse team would control every aspect of the game, defeating Dean College 12-2, at Boucher Field on Thursday afternoon at Boucher Field.
The Eagles (6-3) would strike first at the 11:23 mark, on a man-up goal by senior Laela Marinez. Plenty of opportunities would come after for Husson, but the ball just couldn't find the back of the net. It wasn't until there were five minutes left in the quarter that the offense would add another goal to their total, from sophomore Kate Boehmcke, with senior Averi Baker providing the assist.
The duo would connect again at the 1:48 mark, and Baker would get one of her own less than a minute later, giving the Eagles a 4-0 half at the end of the first quarter.
Husson's defense would suffocate the Dean (1-8) offense, not allowing a shot all quarter and forcing 13 turnovers.
Senior Madison Lower would kick the scoring off for the Eagles, with an assist from freshman Shannon McDonough, the first of her collegiate career. Baker would score her second of the game just a minute later, inflating Husson's lead to 6-0.
The Bulldogs would end the shutout halfway through the second and would score twice, ending the half with a 6-2 lead for the Eagles.
The third quarter would play out like the first, with Husson adding onto their lead at the 11-minute mark, with sophomore Reese Sullivan scoring her first of the game. Senior Gracie Gardner would also score this quarter, with Sullivan getting her second goal of the quarter to close out the scoring, giving the Eagles a 9-2 lead to end the third.
Husson would continue to control the game in the fourth quarter. Freshman Amelia Saunders would get into the scoring column, and Gardner picked up another assist. Freshman Ella Duchette scored at the 2:56 mark, the first of her collegiate career.
Gardner would close the scoring out for the Eagles on a man-up free position goal, her second of the game.
Baker, Boehmcke, Gardner, and Sullivan would each have two goals, while Gardner led with a game-high three assists, with Baker and Mabee each providing two assists of their own.
Boehmcke and freshman Lauren Small led the Eagles in ground balls with six, with Boehmcke leading the team in draw controls with five.
Husson would hold leads in draw controls, 11-5, and converting on clears, 13-18 to Dean's 9-35, while causing 41 turnovers.
The Eagles' defense was the defining factor this game, shutting Dean out in three quarters, while only allowing nine shots all game. Freshman Salin Bachor would stay in net all game, recording four saves.
Husson is back at it next Saturday, where they'll take on the University of Maine at Farmington at 3:30 p.m. at Boucher Field on Senior Day.
