Box Score 2 Castine, ME - The Husson Eagles volleyball team was able to secure the second seed for the upcoming North Atlantic Conference playoffs after defeating Lyndon State and Johnson State on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles took down the Lyndon Hornets in four sets (25-10, 25-14, 23-25, 25-13), and the Johnson Badgers in straight sets (25-5, 25-17, 25-6).
The victories improve Husson's record to 15-9 (6-1 NAC), while Lyndon falls to 3-18 (1-6 NAC), and Johnson slips to 1-20 (0-7 NAC).
In the Eagles' first match of the day against Lyndon, strong serving and hitting paved the way to victory. Husson served up 24 aces in the match, and had a .280 hitting percentage as a team.
Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH) led the Eagles' attack with 13 kills on 20 attempts. She also added a match-high 14 digs and four aces.
Kelsey Burrill (Somersworth, NH) had 11 kills, eight digs, and six aces for Husson, while Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, RI) notched nine kills and 10 digs for the victors. Aleta Johnson (Milton, NH) also contributed 31 assists and five aces for the Eagles.
Taylor Young, Erica Ponte, and Alyssa Braley had two kills apiece to pace the Hornets, while Young also had four service aces. Laura Drake posted 12 digs, six assists, and three aces in defeat.
In Husson's second match of the day against Johnson State, the Eagles put up almost identical team stats as the first match. Husson again had 24 aces, and slightly improved their team hitting percentage to .286.
Michelle Smith (New Boston, NH), Burrill, and deHertogh all had six kills apiece to lead the Eagles to their second victory of the day. Burrill also contributed six digs and four aces.
Olstad had a match-high nine aces for Husson to go along with four kills of her own. Aleta Johnson handed out 22 assists and four aces for the Eagles, while Kristen Lawrence (Manchester, NH) added four aces, four digs, and a pair of kills in the win.
Johnson State was paced by Emily Himberg who had three kills and three digs in the loss. Amanda McLean picked up 10 digs, while Kylie VanEtten had three aces and three assists for the Badgers.
Husson will have one more regular-season match before the start of the NAC playoffs. The Eagles will travel to U-Maine Machias for an out of conference bout Tuesday night at 6:30PM.
