Box Score Castleton, VT - Nicole Adams became the all-time leading point
scorer in Castleton history, and Marie VanDerKar set the
single-season goal scoring record as Castleton cruised to a 22-12
win over Husson University in North Atlantic Conference action
Sunday afternoon.
Adams tallied the 151st point of her three-year career on an
unassisted goal with 4:22 remaining in the contest to give
Castleton a 20-11 lead.
VanDerKar's fifth goal of the contest came with 8:36
remaining in the first half, and gave her 49 on the season, setting
the new mark. Nicole Bouchard set both marks last season as a
senior.
Castleton traded goals with Husson over the opening five minutes of
play, but used a 14-3 run to close out the half and take a
commanding
17-5 lead into intermission. The Spartans stretched their lead to
19-7 with 16:55 remaining in the contest, but a 4-0 run by the
Eagles cut the lead to eight with 4:28 remaining. Castleton
answered with two quick goals coming out of a timeout to put the
game out of reach.
VanDerKar scored a game-high seven goals and dished out one assist,
while Adams added four goals and three assists. Stephanie Pearce
tallied four goals and one assist as Castleton improves to 10-1 on
the season.
Freshmen Angelica Mazzola and Stephanie Paproski added three and
two goals respectively, and Elizabeth Haggerty rounded out the
scoring with two goals.
Shelby Bradford led the 5-5 Eagles with five goals while Caitlyn
Butterfield added three and Caitlin Ramsey two.
The Spartans will travel to Colby-Sawyer Tuesday for a 4:00 pm
non-conference match-up. Husson wraps up its season Tuesday at
Thomas College in a 4:00 pm NAC tilt.
