BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University softball team has named Avery Clinger as its newest recruit from the class of 2026.
Clinger comes to Bangor from Liberty Hill, Texas, where she attends Liberty Hill High School, having played varsity softball for the last two years.
A left-handed hitting outfielder, Clinger has played club softball for nine years for Texas Blaze Gold Ward 18U team and batted .375 this past fall.
Throughout her softball career, Clinger's teams have won a Bi-District Championship, a co-District Championship, an Area Championship and a Regional Semi Championship.
"I wanted my college experience to be somewhere both beautiful and welcoming," said Clinger. "Choosing a school in Maine gave me the chance to be in a small-town setting surrounded by natural beauty, while also finding a community that feels like home. Meeting the coaching staff left a lasting impression with their warmth, and the cozy atmosphere of the school made it clear this was the right place to grow as both a student and an athlete."
Off the field, Clinger was an academic all-district recipient in 2025 and has maintained honor roll for all four years of her high school career.
"I'm thankful for my family's support and for my coaches' guidance," said Clinger. "Your encouragement has helped me grow as both a player and a person."
While at Husson, Clinger plans to study pre-medicine.
