Bangor, Maine — Husson University Head Women's Basketball Coach Kissy Walker has announced the addition of Julia Smith, a standout guard from Countryside High School in Clearwater, Florida.

Smith, who plays under Coach Heather Ashlin, was a key contributor for the Cougars, averaging 11.8 points, 3.5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2.9 steals per game. 

A two-time Second Team All-Pinellas County Athletic Conference (PCAC) selection, she earned All-Tournament honors at the 2025 Academy of the Holy Names Girls Basketball Tournament. Smith ranked 2nd in Pinellas County and 30th in the state of Florida for three-pointers made and is recognized as the 32nd-ranked guard in the state.

"Julia is the epitome of the ultimate team player," Pinellas Hoops Supreme AAU Coach, Travis Donaldson said. "You won't get a kid that will work harder than she will at her game for herself and the team."

In addition to her basketball success, Smith excelled in flag football, where she was named Offensive Player of the Year at Countryside. She threw 22 passing touchdowns, rushed for 8 touchdowns, and totaled over 2,500 yards of offense.

Off the court, Smith is a dedicated leader and student. She serves as President of the Spirit Club, Vice President of Student Government, and is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Senior Class Government, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and First Priority. She also competes with PHS Elite 17U Boggs on the AAU circuit.

"Julia has a high basketball IQ, she plays with relentless energy and passion. She loves to compete and is a well-rounded student athlete who will fit right into our program," said Coach Walker. 

Julia plans to major in Business administration while attending Husson.
