When Kenzie Worcester got the call from her longtime coach, Kissy Walker, she assumed it was a routine chat — maybe about a recruit or someone looking at Husson. What she didn’t expect was to hear her own name.

“I was pretty surprised,” Worcester said. “Coach said she wanted to talk, and I thought it was about a recruit or something like that. Then she told me it was about me being inducted into the Hall of Fame. I was quite shocked and really honored.”

For Worcester, a 2019 Husson graduate and one of the most decorated players in program history, the news was both humbling and surreal. “You don’t really think about something like that when you’re playing,” she said. “You’re focused on winning games, being a good teammate, and representing Husson the best you can. To be recognized like this — it’s really special.”

Worcester’s impact on the court was undeniable from the moment she put on a Husson uniform. Between 2015 and 2019, she led the Eagles to four consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championships and four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, cementing Husson as one of the most successful programs in the region.

She was a four-time All-Conference selection, earning second-team honors as a freshman before taking first-team recognition in each of her final three seasons. As a senior, Worcester was named NAC Player of the Year (2019) and became one of the most accomplished all-around guards in Division III New England basketball.

Her accolades extended far beyond the conference level. She earned three-straight Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-State selections, was a two-time Clara Swan Female Athlete of the Year at Husson, and in her final season, was recognized as a D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Third Team and New England Women’s Basketball Association All-Region selection.

At the time of her induction, Worcester ranked among Husson’s all-time leaders in nearly every offensive category — second in career points (1,869), first in three-point percentage (.393) and free-throw percentage (.843), and top five in assists, steals, and field goals made.

But for Worcester, success was always rooted in one thing: teamwork. “The big thing that led to success for me was hard work, dedication, and constant communication with my teammates and coaches,” she said. “I was in Coach Walker’s office a lot, talking about what was expected of me and of the team. That kind of openness and collaboration made all the difference.”

While her stat line tells a story of dominance, Worcester’s fondest memories come from the camaraderie and moments off the court. “Some of my favorite memories are just the time spent on the bus with both the women’s and men’s teams,” she said. “We had a great relationship with them — lots of laughs, jokes, and fun times.”

She also recalls a few unforgettable on-court highlights, including a huge win in Tennessee. “Beating Chicago that year was a big one for us,” she said. “We had lost our starting post player, Sami, and that made it a really emotional and hard-fought victory. It’s one I’ll never forget.”

Then there were the lighter moments — like the night an unexpected fire alarm forced the whole team into a hotel lobby at 2 a.m. “Everyone was half-asleep, grumpy, and laughing,” Worcester said. “One of my teammates, Joan, was just not happy about being woken up, and everyone was videotaping her. It’s those silly memories that stick with you.”

Worcester’s consistency, leadership, and humility made her a model for future generations of Eagles. Today, she’s recognized as one of the greatest players in Husson women’s basketball history — a title that still catches her off guard.

“It’s not something I ever set out to achieve,” she said. “All I wanted was to be a good teammate and to work as hard as I could to make Husson women’s basketball something people noticed — not just at Husson, but around the state and New England. Hearing that people look up to me now or want to follow in my footsteps — it’s incredible. It’s not something I can even describe.”

For Worcester, Husson’s influence extended far beyond basketball. “I’m very thankful I ended up deciding to go to Husson,” she said. “Coach Walker had such a huge hand in shaping me into the person and player I became. She’s someone I still look up to, and we still text pretty often — sometimes about basketball, sometimes just about life.”

That mentorship and connection, Worcester said, reflect what makes Husson special. “It’s the community,” she said. “Whether it was professors, staff, or people on campus, everyone was involved in your success — not just as a student-athlete but as a person. You’d walk down the hall and people would ask how the game went. Everyone cared. That meant a lot.”

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology – Human Movement Science (2019) and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (2021) from Husson, Worcester returned home to northern Maine to start her career.

She began working at County Physical Therapy in Presque Isle, then transitioned to the clinic’s Caribou location, where she continues to work as a full-time physical therapist. “I started right out of college and have been there ever since,” she said. “It’s rewarding work. I love helping people recover and get back to doing what they love — it’s not so different from being part of a team.”

As she reflects on her journey, Worcester is quick to credit those who helped her along the way. “I’ve been blessed with incredible coaches and mentors — from my rec league days to high school and all the way through Husson,” she said. “Coach Walker had a huge hand in who I was as a player and a person. And outside of basketball, my parents and family were everything. They drove me to games, supported me, and believed in me every step of the way.”

Looking ahead to her induction ceremony, Worcester said the moment is about more than personal achievement. “It’s about all the people who were part of my story — my teammates, coaches, professors, family, and friends,” she said. “It’s a reflection of all of them as much as it is of me.”

For Kenzie Worcester, the Hall of Fame isn’t just a recognition of her remarkable career — it’s a celebration of her community, her commitment, and the legacy she leaves behind at Husson University.
