BANGOR, Maine – Williams Field High School senior Sophia Carnes has officially committed to play for the Husson University women's basketball team during the 2025-2026 season.

Carnes is a crafty, high-IQ guard who has made her mark as one of the top offensive threats in Arizona's 6A Fiesta Conference.

During her senior season, she averaged an impressive 17 points per game, along with 4.5 assists and 3.3 steals, showcasing her all around impact on both ends of the court.

Sophia was named first team all-conference, earned the title of Region Offensive Player of the Year and finished her high school career with an astonishing 237 made three-pointers – making her the leading three-point shooter in the conference.

Under the leadership of coach Brandon Montoya, Sophia was a consistent playmaker and leader for the Black Hawks. On the AAU circuit, she competed with the VBC 17U national, playing against top talent at the National level.

"Sophia is a very disciplined and focused student-athlete," said head women's basketball coach Kissy Walker. "She is a versatile player with a solid skill set. She has put up some impressive numbers as a 1,000-point scorer and leader in three-point shots made.  We are excited to add Sophia to our roster and we believe she will make an impact right away."

Off the court, Sophia is an excellent student and an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Sophia plans to study Physical Therapy at Husson.
