Men's cross country, track and field unveils 2022-23 recruiting class

Anthony ColucciCross Country/Track & Field

High School: Mt. Ararat High School, Maine

Events and PR'S: 

800M - 2:07.77

1600M - 5:31.31

5k - 19:33.10

Athletic Achievements: Maine State Class A Outdoor Championship second place 4x800 relay. Indoor track and field KVAC third in 400. Outdoor track KVAC team champion.  fifth in the 800, first in 4x800.

Academic Achievements: Achieved honor roll every year including high honors one year.

Major: Doctorate of Physical Therapy

Why Husson: "I picked Husson because it's the best fit for my major, and the school itself is incredible. Academically, it's perfect. The athletics are also a huge bonus, since the coaching staff seems really cool."

 

Avery Gagnon Track & Field

High School: Dexter Regional High School, Maine

Events and PR'S:

Long Jump - 18'6"

Triple Jump - 39'9"

Athletic Achievements: Three-sport varsity athlete. Captain of football and basketball teams senior year. Named first team all-conference in football.

Academic Achievements: Member of National Technical Honor Society. Received honor roll recognition multiple times throughout high school.

Volunteer Work: Volunteered for class fundraising

Major: Sport Management

Why Husson: "Husson has a great business program which really has drawn me towards the school. As I was on a visit I was able to meet a few of the personalities and that is what made my choice to attend Husson easy."

 

Avery RedonnettTrack & Field

High School: Lincoln Academy, Maine

Athletic Achievements: Won varsity letter for outdoor track and field, placed top seven at KVAC's in 300m hurdles, and top 12 at states freshman year.

Academic Achievements: Initiated a new course for Lincoln Academy around service learning.  

Major: Doctorate of Physical Therapy

Why Husson: "I have family members who went here in the past, it was also the cheapest option that allowed me to get my degree as fast as I can. The classes are small, which means good relationships with teachers, an incredible staff with upperclassmen who always seem to be having a good time. I love the simplicity of the campus, it's close to home, and closer to Acadia National Park. Best park ever. When walking onto Husson campus I got immediately hit with a sense of euphoria and clarity that I would be walking onto the right campus come Fall 2022."

 

Colin Simpson Track & Field

High School: Bucksport High School, Maine

Athletic Achievements: Four-sport varsity athlete throughout high school. Junior and senior captain of the soccer and track and field teams. Maine State Indoor Track and Field Class B Long Jump Champion. Maine State Outdoor Track and Field Class C Long Jump Champion. All-New England honors for long jump.

Academic Achievements: Honor Roll all four years. Internship at a physical therapy practice

Major: Doctorate of Physical Therapy

Why Husson: "I chose Husson University because I felt the most connected with people here whenever I visited. The atmosphere here was so welcoming and friendly, I felt as if I was at home instantly. No matter where you were walking, someone always had a smile on their face welcoming you. I don't see myself anywhere other than Husson University."

 

Derek BustilloCross Country/Track & Field

High School: Cathedral Preparatory and Seminary, N.Y.

Athletic Achievements: Won CHSAA Division B City Championship for basketball. Cross country team rank top four in league.

Academic Achievements: Achieved honors all four years. Member of a discussion group.

Major: Sports Journalism/Broadcasting and Business

Why Husson: "I felt at home visiting Husson during my visit, I loved the atmosphere and I knew the second I stepped on campus that if I were to attend, that I would get all my work done and have a great time being part of a team. I felt that attending Husson would help me make friends easily and would make me feel involved in the school community compared to other schools where I felt I was just a number among the rest. I can also see my full potential in track as it would only be my third year running and I feel that Husson was the place."

Why Husson: "I was torn between a couple of choices for college but then I actually went on campus for a tour and immediately saw what a welcoming atmosphere the campus had and all the opportunities the school had to offer which then led me to choose Husson."

Captain of cross country team junior and senior year, outdoor track and field team captain senior year and swim team captain senior year. 2020 The Forecaster-South Portland High School Fall Athlete of the Year (Cross Country). 2021 New England Qualifier Cross Country. 2021 All-Conference (Cross Country). 2021 All-State Cross Country. 2022 All-Conference (800M & 600Y Indoor Track). 2021-2022- 800M indoor track school record.  2021-2022- NISCA State Top 16 Award-Swimming 100 Fly, 100 Back, 200 IM. 2022 Maine State Outdoor Track and Field Class A 800 Runner Up. 2022 All New England Honors 800.

Academic Achievements: Graduated Cum Laude

Major: Exercise Science

Why Husson: "As soon as I walked the campus I knew it was the right fit for me. The people that I met gave me a sense that I would be welcome and make friends. From the diverse community at Husson, the strong athletic programs and academic support it's exactly what I have been looking for."

Athletic Achievements: Three-sport varsity athlete all four years. Captain of outdoor track and field junior year; captain of the boys' soccer team, indoor & outdoor track team senior year. KVAC All-Academic awards in soccer and indoor track senior year. Panther award in indoor track senior year for demonstrating strong leadership skills.

Academic Achievements: Officer in National Honor Society. President of junior classical league. Renaissance award winner for academic excellence.

Volunteer Work: Volunteers at a local animal shelter

Major: Doctorate in Physical Therapy

Why Husson: "I believe that Husson brings with it a commitment worth the time it requires. I am someone who welcomes a challenge, and puts forward an effort to develop from it. Husson is a school where I can see myself completing that challenge."

Major: Audio Engineering with a Concentration in Live Sound Production

Why Husson: "'Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one remembers to turn on the light' J.K Rowling. I chose Husson because I immediately felt at home with the campus and an extremely welcoming community. I was able to meet and work with a future professor of mine. I love the tight knit feeling I get from Husson and can't wait to attend in the fall."

Athletic Achievements: Three-sport athlete all four years.  Indoor and outdoor track and field team captain. Football team captain, patriot award (team MVP). Selected to Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl in football. Maine State Indoor Track and Field Class B fourth place Shot Put. Indoor New England's qualifier.

Major: Business Administration

Why Husson: "Husson has a tremendous business program and I liked the feel of the school when on a visit."

Athletic Achievements: KVAC All-Conference 2022 400m, javelin, 400m relay, 1600m relay. 2021 Bruce Bickford and 2022 Ray Winship award recipient. 

Academic Achievements: High honors all four years. Top 10 in GPA of 2022 graduating class. 

Volunteer Work: Volunteer coach at Winslow Summer Track Program 2018, 2019, 2021.

Major: Doctorate in Physical Therapy

Why Husson: "Husson's staff was the most helpful in my college search, as I was able to make a more personal connection. Their physical therapy program aligns perfectly with the career I intend to pursue. My older sister, Payton Goodwin, also attends Husson and I am excited to be able to run track with her once again."
