Box Score BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University volleyball team rallied over the final three sets of Tuesday's non-conference senior night showdown with Saint Joseph's College of Maine to earn its sixth-straight triumph.
A common theme to the Husson's season prevailed again Tuesday evening in Newman Gymnasium as Saint Joseph's (6-12) rolled off an early 25-15 set one victory and managed to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 set two win and looked to be in the drivers set on its way to a 3-0 road win.
But, Husson (8-7) who has shown resilience all season, jumped on the Monks in set three, rolling off a 7-3 advantage to open the set before catching fire and benefiting from an 18-10 scoring run, backed by 10 kills and only two attack errors to close out the set.
Momentum started to shift in favor of the Eagles who reacted with a 6-0 run to begin the fourth set and led 11-3 before the Monks pulled with 12-7.
However, Husson's student-body fan base begin to impact the contest and gave the Eagles added drive, a drive that saw the set close on a 13-6 run in favor of Husson to even the match at 2-2 and force a deciding fifth set.
Set five began with both teams trading points back-and-forth before the eighth-point side switch in favor of the Eagles at 8-7. Husson increased its edge to 10-8 and benefited from a 3-1 run to open up a 13-9 lead, needing just two points to pick up the decision.
Sophomore
Julia Leavitt who finished with a game-high 21 kills, picked up her 21st kill of the evening to give Husson it's 14th point and graduate student
Amber Lemay tallied her third service ace of the night to send the Eagles away with the win.
Three Eagles recorded double-doubles in the win, Leavitt finishing with a 21-kill, 13-dig performance, senior
Cheyenne Young tallied 15 kills and 11 digs and sophomore
Alyvia McIntyre posted a 40-assist, 13-dig double-double finishing three aces shy of a triple double with seven.
McIntyre's 40-assist performance pushed the sophomore past the 1,000-career assist plateau, becoming just the fifth Eagle in program history to reach the milestone.
Lemay recorded a team-high 14 digs, while fellow graduate student
Adrienne Beatty finished with 10 digs.
Husson finished the night with 16 service aces and nine blocks, three of which came from sophomore
Alexa Beal who also added eight kills.
Prior to Tuesday's matchup, Husson recognized both of its super seniors in Lemay and Beatty along with senior's Young and
Crissy Cruz.
The Eagles will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they host North Atlantic Conference preseason poll favorite Maine Maritime Academy at 5 p.m.
