The Eagles found the breakthrough in the 29th minute when Mario Alvarez's inviting corner was whipped across the face of the MCLA goal which was nodded home from close range by Cabau with the slightest of touches.
Another Alvarez set piece earned the Eagles a goal in the 35th minute. His thunderous free kick from 25 yards out produced a fantastic save by the MCLA goalkeeper, but his effort unfortunately came back off the crossbar and the storming Florian Gasser was the first there to pick up the pieces, slotting home from close range for his first collegiate goal.
In the 43rd minute, the Eagles high marking press earned them a goal. Alejandro Mora intercepted a pass in the Trailblazer's defensive zone and passed the ball across the box and Kenny Penney diverted the ball perfectly to Cabau and he fired a low shot into the bottom right corner.
Less than two minutes later, Alvarez whipped in yet again another teasing corner kick that was punched away by the keeper but only as far as Mosi Masimango on the back post and he took a touch then half-volleyed it past everybody for his first collegiate goal with a second left on the clock.
In the 53rd minute, Cabau finished off a great move down the right flank from Mora, who fizzed a sumptuous ball across the face of goal to find an unmarked Cabau at the far post with the easiest of tap in's to complete another impressive performance with a hat-trick on the day.
Joao Passoni would cap the six-goal performance in the 65th minute. A lose ball across the Trailblazer back line was well read and pressed by Passoni who got in front of the MCLA center back and knocked the ball into his path, showing great composure to slot it by the onrushing goalkeeper from 10-yards out.
With the shutout, the Eagles earned their second clean sheet of the season without facing a true shot on goal. Powell played the first 58 minutes and got the victory in net while first year Alex Rechsteiner made he first collegiate appearence and played the final 32 minutes.
A very pleased Gavin Penny had this to say after the game, "Very very proud of our performance today. I told the lads we set a bar at Bowdoin for the level of our performance and that we need to play at this level in all games. I could not have asked for much more today. The lads were rampant. They were excellent in executing their actions and got their just rewards for it. We have been knocking on the door and it was only a matter of time before it all fell into place, unfortunately for MCLA, they were the opponents today. I'm thrilled for the lads, it's a great result before a big game on Wednesday and an incredibly important week ahead"
The Eagles have one more non-conference game in this three-game stretch as they host Gordon College on Wednesday, September 22nd at Boucher Field with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
