Box Score BANGOR, Maine - It had been 25 days since their last match at Boucher Field and the Husson University women's soccer team found themselves putting on an offensive clinic with a 5-0 victory over SUNY Canton on Saturday morning. The Eagles remain unbeaten in the North Atlantic Conference with a 6-0 record and 7-3-2 overall while the Kangaroos drop to 2-3 in the conference and 2-7-1 overall.
It took until the 16th minute for the Eagles to find their opener. Mackenzie Lambert with a cross that was misjudged by the keeper and the NAC Rookie of the Week, Megan Buddemeyer, put home her second goal of the season.
The Eagles kept pressing for the insurance goal and they finally found it with four seconds left in the half as Kate Harriman was able to put home an easy tap-in from a Sydney Drew cross on the edge of the box. It was Harriman's third goal of the season and second of the week.
In the 52nd minute, 3-0 Eagles. Sophia Mullins and Molly Ennis connected perfectly on a quick 1-2 and Ennis was able to send Shannon Dowd through and passed the defense for a 1v1 with the keeper and she converted for third goal of the season.
The moment of the match came in the 64th minute. A corner taken by Mullins was headed home by the captain, Emily Helgerson, for her first collegiate goal in her 53rd game as an Eagle. In celebration of the goal; she hugged every player in tears of joy.
The final goal of the game came in the 75th minute as Charlotte Messer scored on a rebound from the free kick of Mullins. The goal was originally disallowed but after a meeting of officials; the goal was given for Messer's sixth goal of the campaign.
Shie Smith earned the clean sheet in her first start since September 4th as she stopped her only attempt. The Roos were held to only two total shots with both coming in the final ten minutes.
The squad has a quick turnaround as tomorrow (Sunday, October 10th) the Badgers of Northern Vermont-Johnson visit Boucher Field. Kickoff for the NAC fixture is set for noon.
