Box Score 2 MINNEOLA, Fla.- The Eagles came up just short in the morning, falling 2-1 to Bethany College (W.V.), but finished out the day with a 9-4 victory over Haverford College.
Game One: Bethany 2, Husson 1
Tyra Bell got Bethany on the board in the bottom of the first, with an RBI single to right center, scoring Tatum Barrass to make it 1-0. The Eagles tied the game in the third as Tamara Aunchman drew a walk and Bri Brochu took off and stole home.
The score remained at a 1-1 deadlock until the bottom of the 6th, when Bell drove in her second run of the game with a homer to give Bethany the 2-1 win.
Husson Highlights:
- Sydney Ames, Meagan Gosselin and Whitney Bess each had two hits for the Eagles, going a combined 6 for 10 at the plate.
- Despite the loss, Alyssa Prest threw an impressive game in her season debut, pitching six innings while allowing just two runs on five hits, while striking out four.
Bethany Highlights:
- Tyra Bell was the difference in the game, going 2 for 3 with both Bethany RBI's, including a homerun.
- Despite giving up eight hits, the Bethany pitcher Gabriella Capaldi allowed just one run, and evened her record to 2-2.
Game Two: Husson 9, Haverford 4
Both teams opened up with strong bats in the first inning. Marybeth Stone's double to left brought in teammates Emma Souter and Ashley Sisto to take a 2-0 advantage. Husson answered back promptly with a commanding four runs in the bottom of the inning. The big inning started with a Morgan Coleman double down the left field line to score teammate Bri Brochu. Chloe Gorey scored from third on a sacrifice fly to left by Jen Jones. Adding on to the momentum, Meagan Gosselin's base hit to right scored Coleman, and Tamara Aunchman was driven in by Sydney Ames' deep hit into the outfield to make it 4-2 Husson at the end of one.
Haverford got one back in the top of the second when Briana Quinn tagged an RBI double down the left line to bring in Madison Hujber, cutting Husson's lead to 4-3 after two innings.
That score would hold until the Eagles exploded for five runs over the fifth and sixth innings. Mikayla Tripp scored on a flyout to right by Aunchman, followed by Jones touching home thanks to Gosselin. In the sixth, Fowler's shot to deep right center scored Brochu. Adding on two more were Fowler and Coleman getting walked in on loaded bases.
Haverford tacked on one more run in a last-attempt effort as Husson picked up a 9-4 victory.
Husson Highlights:
- Morgan Coleman went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
- Bri Brochu had a game-high three hits and scored two runs
- Tamara Aunchman went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Jen Jones picked up her first win of the season, striking out seven over seven innings while giving up four runs on seven hits.
Haverford Highlights:
- Emma Souter went 2 for 3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.
- Marybeth Stone went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and a walk.
