Women's Soccer Battles to 0-0 Tie with New England College

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University women's soccer team tied New England College, 0-0, in a conference matchup on Saturday, October 14, at the John P. Boucher field.

In the tie, the Eagles go to 6-5-1 (5-1-1 NAC), while the Pilgrims see their record go to 5-8-2 (4-2-1 NAC).

In a pregame ceremony, seniors and final year players Jordyn Hopkins, Leah Hibbad, Myra Degre, Meghan Catanese, Taylor Fortin, and Maddie Page were all recognized for their contributions to the Husson women's soccer program.

The first half of the game featured fast-paced play with scoring chances on both ends, but the goalies and defensives played a perfect half.

At the 18:00 minute mark in the first half, Emily LePage had two great scoring chances for New England College. Sami Ireland turned away one shot, but when the Eagles' goalkeeper found herself out of goal after saving the first shot, LePage had a wide-open net. Morgan Carver made a tremendous defensive play by kicking away the shot on goal.

With 16 minutes left in the game, Leah Hibbad made a few slick moves to free herself of the opposing defenders and had a direct path to an open net. She did the best she could to regain her balance and put a shot on net. The ball deflected off the fair crossbar and away from the goal.

Neither team could break the scoreless tie, so the fast-paced, homecoming again went into an overtime period.

The first and second overtime had the same result as regulation, a scoreless tie.

The Eagles had a few chances but could not capitalize on any of them.

Both goalkeepers had great days for their respective teams. Sami Ireland recorded saves nine in the net, while the NEC netminder collected eight.

Hibbad recorded four shots on goal, while Taylor Fortin recorded three. Emily LePage had four shots on goal for the Pilgrims.

The Eagles travel to Green Mountain for 1:00 p.m. conference game on Saturday, October 21.
