Eagles Close Out the Regular Season with Win Over Bates, 8-2

Bangor, Maine – Lyndsay Merrill went a perfect 4-for-4 on the day to help propel the Eagles to a 8-2 win against Bates in non-conference action on Wednesday night at O'Keefe Field.

Husson (12-23) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Casey Lopes singled to right field sending Merrill home with the run.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second, Bates (5-29) got on the board with a run off one hit and an Eagle miscue to tie the game at 1-1. Madison Fox reached first on a fielding error by left fielder Allison Hill and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tori Fitzgerald before scoring on Paige Ahlholm single up the middle.

The Eagles responded with a two runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead on back-to-back doubles by Merrill and Hill for a 3-1 advantage.

Husson added a run in third and three in the fourth taking a 7-1 lead before the Bobcats scored their second run of the game thanks to a single to right field by Maria Garbarino plating Ahlholm with the run.

Kristen Chipman scored on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Smith in the bottom of fifth making the game 8-2.

Merrill led Husson offensively with two doubles, three runs and one RBI to go along with her 4-for-4 day. Hill and Lopes each connected with three hits and they combined for four RBI's, two doubles and two stolen bases. Chipman added a triple.

Ahlholm was 2-for-3 with one run, a two-bagger and an RBI for the Bobcats. Karen Lockhart, Fitzgerald and Garbarino accounted for the three other Bates hits in the setback.

Alannah Healy (10-14) allowed two runs (one earned) off five hits with five punch-outs over 7.0 innings to pick up the win inside the circle for the Eagles. Kylie Martin (2-16) took the loss after yielding eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits while walking two and fanning one over 5.0 innings. Sam Fellers pitched a scoreless sixth allowing just a single hit with two strikeouts.

Husson awaits their postseason fate while Bates returns to action on Friday when they host Colby for a 4:00 p.m. NESCAC East game.
