Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A three-run double by third baseman Sami Cyr capped off a late inning rally over Thomas More, 4-1 as the Eagles earn a split on Friday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games. The Eagles lost to Illinois College by a score of 3-0 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Husson 4, Thomas More 1
Husson (2-8) fell into a 1-0 hole with one out in the top of first, when centerfield Laura Finke reached on a single, stole second and advanced to third on the throw off a third baseman Whitney Quillen ground out to third before scoring on a RBI single by Thomas More's (6-4) starting pitcher Alix DeDreu.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles rallied with four runs off five hits to take the lead. Designated player Brianna Bires singled to center field and advanced to second on an infield single by left fielder Allison Hill. Another infield single by shortstop Lyndsay Merrill loaded the bases for catcher Olivia Smith, who singled on the very next pitch sending home Bires with the tying run before Cyr cleared the bases with a three run double as Husson led 4-1 at the end of the sixth inning.
Starting pitcher Alannah Healy (2-3) pitched a scoreless seventh to secure the victory for the Eagles.
For the Eagles, Bires was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Cyr went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a two bagger. Healy went the distance inside the circle allowing one earned run on eight hits while walking one and fanning one as she picked up her second win on the season.
For the Saints, DeBreu was 2-for-3 with a RBI and designated player Bree Appel went 1-for-3 with a two bagger, while Finke, Quillen, right fielder Mamee Salzer, second baseman Dallis Knotts and shortstop Ana Walter accounted for the five other Saint hits in the setback. DeDreu (2-2) took the lost after yielding four earned runs on six hits while walking one and fanning five over 5.1 innings.
Game 2: Illinois College 3, Husson 0
Illinois College (5-3) jumped ahead in the bottom of the second inning when second baseman Elyce Trout reached base on a one-out walk, stole second before scoring on a two-out double to left field by catcher Marissa Knowles to give the Lady Blues a 1-0 edge.
The Lady Blues added two runs in the fifth on back-to-back hits by left fielder Jackie Reilly and first baseman Kate Prizer making the game 3-0.
For the Eagles, first baseman Erika Parker was 1-for-2 with a walk, designated player Kristen Chipman went 1-for-2 with a walk and Bires accounted for the other Eagle hit an infield single in the fifth. Healy took the lost after yielding three earned runs on seven hits while walking one and picking up one whiffs over 6.0 innings.
For the Lady Blues, centerfielder Kinzie Verhines was 2-for-3, Knowles went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a two-bagger. Reilly added a two-bagger in the fifth. Starting pitcher Mariah Hedges (3-0) struck out five while allowing three hits and walking six in her seven innings of work for the win.
The Eagles are back action on Saturday, March 12 with matchups against Skidmore and Muskingum on Husson's last day of the Rebel Spring Games.
