Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Husson University softball team fell to Carroll (Wis.), 9-2 in six innings and 8-0 to Coe in the Rebel Spring Games on Thursday morning.
Game 1: Carroll (Wis.) 9, Husson 2 in six innings
Husson (1-7) got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning when Kristen Chipman scored on Lyndsay Merrill's fourth triple in her last four at bats before Merrill scored on a RBI groundout by Casey Lopes as Husson led 2-0.
Carroll (5-4) cut the deficit in half with an Eagle miscue with two outs in the bottom of the first before taking the lead on a two run shot by Annika Garves in the second. The Pioneers added runs in the third, the fourth and the fifth for the 9-2 victory.
For the Pioneers, Shelby Sommer was 2-for-4 with a run, a two bagger and two RBI while Micah Clutter went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Bailey Eckert was perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with a run. Kelly Sykes added a two run double in the third. Sommer (3-1) went the distance inside the circle to pick up her third win on the season after allowing two earned runs on two hits while walking four and fanning six.
For the Eagles, Merrill was 1-for-3 with a run, a three bagger and an RBI while Chipman accounted for the eagles other hit in the lost. Alannah Healy (1-2) took the lost after allowing nine runs (six earned) on 11 hits with a walk and a strike out over 5.0 innings.
Game 2: Coe 8, Husson 0
A RBI sacrifice bunt by Paige Wieland in the first gave Coe (10-2) the 1-0 lead before adding five in the fourth and two in the seventh for the 8-0 victory over the Eagles.
For the Kohawks, Mallory McArtor was 2-for-3 with a run, a triple bagger and a RBI while Allie O'Brien added a double in sixth. Gretchen Lilienthal, Sara Cazachowski, Marisa Repp and Brenna Winn accounted for the Coe's other five hits in the victory. Alyssa Olson (3-0) pitched 7.0 innings allowing three hits, two walks and fanning nine to pick up the win in the circle.
For the Eagles, Olivia Smith was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, while Merrill went 1-for-3 with a two bagger. Lopes accounted for the Eagles other hit in the setback. Smith (0-2) took the lost after yielding four earned runs on one hit while walking two over 3.1 innings.
Husson resumes play in Florida on Friday with matchups against Thomas More (1:30 p.m.) and Illinois College (3:45 p.m.).
