Box Score BANGOR, Maine - After 110 minutes of women's soccer action Saturday morning Husson and Western New England played to a 1-1 draw in double overtime on day one of the 11th Annual Husson Classic. Both the Golden Bears and Eagles had scoring chances in overtime but couldn't close it out.
In the 37th minute, Western New England's (0-1-1) Emma Norden was able to break through the Husson (0-0-1) defense from a nice touch pass from Brooke Labrie to put the Golden Bears up 1-0.
The scored would remain 1-0 until the 60th minute when the Taylor Fortin scored off a corner kick from Leah Hibbard to tie the score at one all.
"We were very pleased with our play today," Eagles' coach Amanda Cummings said. "We saw some great glimpses of the style of play and level we are looking to play for 90 minutes. Our defense stepped up big for us. We proved that we are a team that is going to play until the final horn blows and that's what makes the coaching staff proud! Taylor had a great finish off of Leah's corner and we are excited to see us capitalize on more opportunities tomorrow!"
Husson goalkeeper Kayla Gordon made four saves in her first collegiate start, awhile Briana Kubilk made 8 saves for the Golden Bears.
The Eagles outshot Western New England 15-13 but the Golden Bears had the advantage on corner kicks 4-3.
Husson hosts Saint Joseph's College of Maine tomorrow for a 1:30 p.m. game on day two of the 11th Annual Husson Classic and Western New England will play Newbury College at 11:00 a.m. in the first game of the day.
