WSOC: Husson upset by Pilgrims in OT

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - Husson was upset by New England (N.H.), 2-1, in overtime in the North Atlantic Conference opener Saturday evening for both teams at Boucher Field. The Eagles suffer their first loss at home (2-1-1) this year.

"That was a tough loss tonight," Husson coach Amanda Cummings said. "We showed glimpses of the Husson soccer we want to see. Unfortunately, we couldn't come up with the win.

"Erin Boulier was incredibly tough for us tonight. Her ability to play angles and stop the attack is really unique and on point. This one didn't go our way but plenty of season left, and I'm confident we will continue to improve."

Leah Hibbad (1) scored the first goal of the match for Husson (2-3-1, 0-1 NAC) in the ninth minute on a penalty kick after being tackled in the box on an attack.

New England (3-4-1, 1-0 NAC) tied the match in the 77th minute when Tara Bainbridge (1) went top shelf from 40 yards out.

Michaela Pomeroy (1) scored the golden goal in the 95th minute with an assist by Emily Gubbins.

Hibbad had six shots and three shots on goal. Reigning NAC Player and Rookie of the Week Alison Boulier recorded three shots.

Goalkeeper Jordyn Hopkins (0-2) made 17 saves in 90 minutes.

Netminder Mackenzie Meegan (3-4-1) made five saves in the loss.

Husson travels to Maine-Machias on Tuesday, Sept. 22, for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff.
