Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson women's soccer fell to North Atlantic Conference opponent New England College 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Both teams were scoreless until the 38th minute when the Pilgrims capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity. Emily Gubbins placed the ball in the right side of the net beating Eagles goalkeeper Jess Poulin for the 1-0 lead.
New England College would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Pilgrims extended their lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute on a header from Lauren Smith. Rachel Thomas was credited with the assist on the goal.
The Eagles answered back in the 52nd minute as Lona Sargent (Sullivan, ME) tallied her first goal of the season. Sydney Costa (Acushnet, MA) registered the assist on the scoring play.
New England College notched the fourth and final goal of the day in the 54th minute for the 3-1 win. Jillian Zanine was credited with the goal while Rachel Thomas notched her second assist of the day.
Husson's Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) had two saves and three goals against in the loss.
Husson falls to 5-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in NAC play.
Coach Gettler stated "Besides being on the wrong end of a terrible call in the first half, we made a lot of mistakes today. We played a very unsettled game and failed to take charge of it when we had the opportunity" after the loss.
The Eagles will play host to the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Wednesday, October 16th in a non-conference match at 7:00 PM which marks the final regular season home game for Husson. The Eagles will be honoring its seniors before the start of the game.
