Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson women's soccer lost a tough non-conference matchup with visting Wheaton College of Norton, Masssachusetts Sunday, 3-0. The Eagles played the Lyons tough, but were unable to score against a very talented Wheaton squad.
Husson's Jessica Poulin collected 14 total saves in her full 90 minutes in net, 12 of which came in the first half. Poulin was tested by the Lyons, but played well on the afternoon.
Wheaton opened the game scoring a goal just 2:55 in, as Tara Caney netted a tally off a Lauren Corigliano assist. Just over a half hour into the match, Corigliano scored her second point of the day, knocking in a ball just in front of the net to push the Wheaton lead to 2-0. However, Corigliano wasn't done , scoring her third and the final goal of the match with just over six minutes left in the first half.
Husson held Wheaton scoreless in the second half, as both teams used a myriad of players. Kelsey Brangiel, Marcy Francoeur and Michaela Bicknell all managed shots for the Eagles to no avail.
"We rose to the challenge of competing with a nationally ranked team today and were able to stay composed and play our game for a majority of the match," said Husson assistant coach Sinead McSharry. "Players like Kelsey Brangiel maintained a positive presence in the center of the park against a well-established Wheaton midfield unit, and Brittany Williams was able to make an impression on the game in several positions for us today."
Husson looks to continue momentum of playing well against a very tough non-conference schedule as well as moving forward off a Saturday conference win vs. Thomas as they play once again this coming Saturday at home vs. Maine Maritime under the lights at 7 PM.
