Eagles Down Pilgrims In OT

Box Score

Bangor, ME – The Husson University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win in overtime vs. New England College Saturday off the foot of Amanda Gifford (Lee, ME). Gifford one-touched a free kick from Marcella Francoeur (Danville, NH) into the back of the net just 3:15 into the first overtime period.

The match was even through regulation with Husson leading the shots tally 15-7 with five shots on goal and six for the Pilgrims. Husson's first-year goalkeeper Jessica Poulin made six saves for the Eagles as her counterpart Tricia Sardagnola (Shrewsbury, MA) made four saves for NEC.

The lone goal of the match came from a Pilgrim foul just outside of their box which set up a free kick for Francoeur. Francoeur laced the set piece into the box that caught the foot of Gifford who put enough pace on it to slide it by Sardagnola.

With the win Husson improves to 5-8 overall in the year and 4-1 in conference and NEC falls to 6-5-2 on the year and 1-3-1 in conference.

Husson takes to the field once again Saturday, October 15 at Castleton State for a 1:00pm kickoff and New England College will return to action tomorrow for a 2:00 PM kickoff at home against Mt. St. Mary (N.Y).
