Box Score The College of New Jersey's women's soccer team
scored a pair of late goals to slip past Husson University 2-0
at the TCNJ Classic. With the loss, the Eagles slip to
1-2 on the young season.
The Lions (4-0) carried play throughout the game, but needed a
pair of late goals to pull out their fourth win of the season.
Sophomore Toni DeMaio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) netted the
winning goal with 13:49 left in regulation. DeMaio settled a cross
from sophomore Jessica Davila (Middletown, NJ/Middletown) directly
in front of the Eagle net and gave TCNJ that 1-0 lead.
Davila doubled that lead in the waning minutes as she hit a low
shot past the Husson keeper for her team-leading fourth goal of the
season.
Lion keeper Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West)
recorded her fourth shutout of the season without facing a
shot.
Eagle goalie Rozlyn Peterson (Newport, ME/Nokomis) finished with
nine saves, including a leaping save on a high shot in the opening
minutes by TCNJ's Katie Landrigan (Rutherford,
NJ/Rutherford).
The Lions held a 31-1 edge in shots in the game and took all 17
corner kicks in the game.
The tournament concludes on Sunday with Husson and Centenary
squaring off in an 11 a.m. start.
