WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference unveiled its weekly award winners for softball on Monday and Husson University softball juniors Ana Lang and Camryn King were honored.
Lang secured her third pitcher of the week honor of the season, including her second-straight, after she continued her dominance in the circle during a 4-1 week for No. 21 Husson, who saw its lone defeat come at the hands of Division I foe University of Maine. Lang posted a 2-1 record in the circle, in addition to adding a save, as she began her week with a five-inning no-hitter against the University of New England, as she totaled 13 strikeouts and surrendered just two walks and a hit by pitch as her only base-runners. In game two against UNE, Lang recorded the two-inning save and became the single-season record holder for Husson in saves, as she added five strikeouts and allowed no base runners. Lang held strong against UMaine in a close 2-1 loss, as she recorded 11 strikeouts in six innings of work, allowing six hits, and just two earned runs. The veteran pitcher concluded her week with another dominant outing against the University of Maine at Farmington, where she pitched another complete-game and allowed just one earned run on four hits and one walk, striking out 12 hitters.
King was named player of the week for the first time this season after she continued to provide a spark for Husson out of the lead-off spot, as the No. 21 Eagles went 4-1 over the past week, including a NAC sweep of UMaine Farmington. King went 8-17 at the plate for the Eagles, including four doubles, as she posted two RBIs and scored six times herself on the week, in addition to going 4-4 on stolen bases and recording two hit by pitches.
No. 21 Husson returns to play tomorrow when it heads to Thomas College for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
