JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – The Husson University women's golf team sits in ninth place after the opening round of the Camp Lejeune Women's Intercollegiate, held at Paradise Point Golf Club's Scarlet Course.
Competing on the par-71, 5,505-yard layout, the Eagles posted a team score of 364 (+80) during Friday's first round and hold a slim edge over Roanoke College heading into the second day of competition.
Senior Caitlyn Chabot led the way for Husson in the opening round, carding an 89 (+18) to sit tied for 39th overall. Chabot's round highlighted the Eagles' efforts on a challenging course that tested the field throughout the day.
Senior Allie Weinert and freshman Abigail Theriault each turned in rounds of 90 (+19) and are tied for 41st, providing solid depth in the Husson lineup.
Freshman Caroline Chausse added a 95 (+24) to place 50th after day one, while fellow first-year Riley Fyfe rounded out the Eagles' scoring with a 111 (+40).
Oglethorpe University leads the team standings after the opening round with a score of 304 (+20), followed by Virginia Wesleyan (311, +27) and Pfeiffer University (314, +30). Individually, Oglethorpe's Elizabeth Powell sits atop the leaderboard after firing an even-par 71.
The Eagles will return to the course on Saturday for the second round of the three-day event, looking to climb the leaderboard at Paradise Point.
