Kaniki sets two PRs as men’s track & field begins outdoor season at ERAU Invite

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Husson University men's track & field team turned in a number of solid performances on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invite, competing against a large field at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida in the team's outdoor opening meet.

Junior Carmy Kaniki paced Husson in the sprint events, finishing 26th in the 100 meters in 11.29 seconds to set a new personal-best, before adding a 35th-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 23.25 seconds, which also set a new personal-best, while freshman Oden Schlager also competed in the 200 and placed 42nd in 26.08 seconds.

Husson had a pair of athletes compete in the 110-meter hurdles, where sophomore Matthew Scamman placed 18th in 16.52 seconds and junior Mykal Roberson finished 20th in 16.84 seconds.

The Eagles posted one of their better finishes of the day in the 4x100-meter relay, as the quartet of senior Dillon Haughton, Kaniki, Scamman and Roberson crossed in 44.70 seconds to place fifth overall.

In the distance events, junior Thomas Hinton represented Husson in the 1500 meters, finishing 40th in 5:16.15.

In the field events, Roberson cleared 1.70 meters in the high jump to finish 13th. In the long jump, Scamman led the Eagles with a 12th-place mark of 6.02 meters, while senior Max MacCallum placed 14th at 5.30 meters.

Husson turned in a strong showing in the triple jump, placing three athletes among the top five. Scamman finished third with a leap of 11.97 meters, Roberson took fourth at 11.64 meters and senior Trey Goodwin added a fifth-place finish with a mark of 11.33 meters.

In the throwing events, senior Jaden Grazulis set a new personal-best and paced Husson in the shot put with an effort of 11.34 meters to finish 15th. MacCallum followed in 21st at 10.30 meters, while freshman Gabriel Fairbrother placed 27th with a throw of 8.67 meters.

Grazulis also led the Eagles in the discus with a 17th-place throw of 35.98 meters. MacCallum finished 24th at 30.13 meters and Schlager added a mark of 28.14 meters for 26th.

In the hammer throw, Grazulis placed 11th with a toss of 36.08 meters, while MacCallum took 12th at 31.77 meters, which cleared his previous personal-best distance.

Husson also had four competitors in the javelin. Fairbrother led the way with a 12th-place throw of 46.96 meters. Goodwin followed in 16th at 38.02 meters, Grazulis finished 17th with 35.66 meters and Schlager placed 22nd at 31.52 meters.

The Eagles close out their spring trip on Friday and Saturday at the SEU Fire Invitational, hosted by Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.
