LAKELAND, Fla. – The Husson University men's track & field team turned in a number of solid performances during competition at the SEU Fire Invitational, held March 13-14 at Southeastern University.
On the track, senior Dillon Haughton posted a time of 12.07 seconds in the 100 meters to place 23rd overall, while freshman Gabriel Fairbrother finished 24th in 12.53 seconds and senior Max MacCallum placed 25th in 12.59 seconds. In the 200 meters, junior Carmy Kaniki led the Eagles with a new personal-best and 28th-place finish in 23.02 seconds, sophomore Matthew Scamman crossed in 23.36 seconds for 33rd and a new personal-best and Haughton added a 48th-place time of 24.85 seconds.
In the hurdles, junior Mykal Roberson advanced through the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.63 seconds, good for eighth overall, before finishing fifth in the final in 16.05 seconds, setting a new personal-best. Junior Thomas Hinton represented Husson in the 400-meter hurdles and placed 19th with a time of 1:11.90. Hinton also competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, recording a time of 13:29.87 to finish 12th.
Husson's 4x100-meter relay team of Haughton, Kaniki, Scamman and Roberson placed sixth overall in 44.84 seconds.
In the jumps, Kaniki scored for the Eagles in both horizontal jump events. He placed ninth in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 6.25 meters and finished eighth in the triple jump at 12.18 meters. Roberson added a ninth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.11 meters, while senior Trey Goodwin was 10th at 11.23 meters. In the long jump, MacCallum placed 16th with a personal-best mark of 5.40 meters and Goodwin was 17th at 5.20 meters.
In the throwing events, Husson produced several scoring efforts. MacCallum finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 11.35 meters, while Fairbrother placed 10th at 8.66 meters. In the discus, senior Jaden Grazulis led the way with a seventh-place toss of 34.37 meters, freshman Oden Schlager was ninth at a personal-best of 31.55 meters, and MacCallum placed 12th with a throw of 28.95 meters. In the hammer, Grazulis finished fourth overall with a mark of 34.92 meters and MacCallum added a seventh-place throw of 30.81 meters.
Husson also had a strong showing in the javelin. Fairbrother placed sixth with a throw of 46.87 meters, Goodwin was ninth at 40.27 meters, Grazulis finished 10th at 37.09 meters, Schlager placed 12th with a personal-best throw of 32.27 meters, MacCallum was 13th at a personal-best 25.52 meters, and Kaniki added a 15th-place effort of 19.80 meters.
The Eagles return to the track on Mar. 28 when they take part in the Carla Coffey Invitational in Northampton, Massachusetts, hosted by Smith College.
