WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference selected its weekly award winners for women's soccer on Monday and Husson University women's soccer sophomore Jaquie Pangburn and senior Emma Nicholson were honored.
Pangburn, who earned her second player of the week award of the season, helped kickstart Husson's offense on Tuesday, leading the team to its first NAC win of the season in a dominant 4-0 win over Thomas College. Pangburn recorded a hat trick in the match, posting one goal in the opening half, before adding on two additional tallies in the second 45 minutes. The Eagles also defeated the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday 6-0, as Pangburn currently ranks tied for second in the NAC in goals with six, including second in the conference in goal in NAC contests with four.
Nicholson was named defensive player of the week, as she played all 90 minutes at center back in Husson's consecutive shutout victories over NAC opponents Thomas College and the University of Maine at Farmington. Across 180 minutes, Husson allowed just three total shots and one shot on goal while holding both opponents scoreless. Nicholson contributed by closing passing lanes, disrupting attacking plays, covering teammates, winning aerial challenges and making defensive challenges to prevent scoring opportunities. Many of these contributions do not appear in the box score, but they were key to Husson limiting its opponents to just one shot on goal across two matches.
Additionally for Husson, freshman Madison Stewart was selected to the weekly honor roll.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they head to Plymouth State University for a 1 p.m. matchup.
