FARMINGTON, Maine — Senior Olivia Charles scored twice as the Husson University women's soccer team earned its third consecutive shutout with a 6-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday.
Husson (4-3-2, 2-1 NAC) applied pressure early, with junior Paige Dunn recording two attempts before Charles forced Farmington goalkeeper Roo Sawyer into a save in the 13th minute.
Charles opened the scoring at 14:25, finishing off an assist from sophomore Thea Gerfen for her first goal of the season.
The Eagles continued to threaten, with Gerfen striking the crossbar just 20 seconds later before junior Hailey Tarbox put an attempt on target in the 16th minute. Charles then scored her second goal at 16:34, doubling Husson's advantage just 2:09 after her opening tally.
Husson maintained its pressure throughout the half, with Charles and Gerfen forcing additional saves from Sawyer. Sophomore Eilidh Irons extended the lead with 33 seconds remaining before halftime, scoring her first goal of the season to send the Eagles into the break ahead 3-0.
The Eagles held a 19-0 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes while earning seven corner kicks to one for the Beavers (0-9-1, 0-3 NAC).
Tarbox helped Husson pick up where it left off after halftime, testing Sawyer in the 51st minute before scoring her second goal of the season at 51:38 to make it 4-0.
Sophomore Jillian Long put another attempt on target in the 65th minute before Dunn added to the lead at 65:46. Her first goal of the season gave the Eagles a 5-0 advantage.
Husson continued to generate chances, with Dunn and sophomore Jaquie Pangburn forcing saves before sophomore Kaitlyn Jones struck the crossbar in the 73rd minute.
Lauryn Smart entered in goal for the Eagles in the 80th minute and preserved the shutout by stopping a header from Hannah Milliken in the 88th minute, turning away Farmington's lone shot on target.
Freshman Madison Stewart completed the scoring at 88:57, recording her first goal of the season to put the finishing touches on the 6-0 victory.
Sophomore Gabriella Smith played the opening 79:27 in goal before Smart recorded one save over the final 10:33 to complete the combined shutout.
Charles led Husson with seven shots, including six on goal, while Tarbox and Gerfen recorded six attempts apiece. Five different Eagles scored in the victory, with Gerfen contributing the team's lone assist.
Husson finished with a 39-3 advantage in shots, including a 21-1 margin in shots on goal, and held a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Eagles will return to non-conference action Saturday when they travel to Plymouth State University for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
