BANGOR, Maine — Sophomore Jaquie Pangburn scored three goals as the Husson University women's soccer team earned its first North Atlantic Conference victory of the season with a 4-0 win over Thomas College on Tuesday at John P. Boucher Field.
Husson (3-3-2, 1-1 NAC) threatened early when junior Ella Hosford struck the post in the second minute. The Eagles continued to generate chances, adding attempts from sophomore Jillian Long and Pangburn over the next five minutes.
Sophomore Gabriella Smith stopped an attempt from Riley Smith in the 19th minute, turning away the only shot on goal Thomas (3-4-2, 1-1 NAC) would produce all afternoon.
The Eagles increased their offensive pressure midway through the half, with Pangburn testing Thomas goalkeeper Emily Rock in the 26th minute before junior Paige Dunn forced another save in the 31st minute.
Pangburn broke through at 32:06, scoring off assists from senior Olivia Charles and sophomore Thea Gerfen to give Husson a 1-0 advantage.
Freshman Sydney Moon put another attempt on target in the 40th minute, but Rock made the stop as the Eagles entered halftime with the lead, 1-0. Husson finished the opening half with a 10-1 advantage in shots.
The Eagles resumed their pressure after the break, with sophomore Kaitlyn Jones and Pangburn each forcing Rock into a save before Husson extended its lead in the 55th minute. Pangburn scored her second goal off an assist from Jordyn Lloyd at 54:21 to make it 2-0.
Pangburn completed her hat trick in the 64th minute, finishing off an assist from Hosford at 63:32 to give the Eagles a three-goal advantage.
Just 2:44 later, Hosford struck the post again before Rylee Speed scored her first goal of the season at 66:16, extending Husson's lead to 4-0.
The Eagles continued to create opportunities over the closing minutes, with Hosford putting a shot on target in the 72nd minute before freshman Madison Stewart tested Rock in the 80th minute. Husson's defense limited the Terriers to two off-target attempts after halftime to secure the team's second consecutive shutout.
Smith recorded one save over the opening 73:59 before freshman Lauryn Smart took over for the final 16:01 to complete the combined shutout.
Pangburn led the Eagles with six shots, including five on goal. Hosford, Dunn and Moon each recorded three attempts, while Charles, Gerfen, Lloyd and Hosford contributed one assist apiece.
Husson will continue North Atlantic Conference play Saturday when it travels to the University of Maine at Farmington for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
