BANGOR, Maine – Husson University Executive Director of Athletics Christopher Parsons has announced the hiring of Meredith Meier as the new head coach of the Eagles women's lacrosse program.
Meier arrives in Bangor following an accomplished 11-year tenure at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where she transformed the Rams into a consistent postseason contender while also serving in several administrative leadership roles within the athletics department.
"We are thrilled to welcome Meredith to Husson University as the next leader of our women's lacrosse program," said Parsons. "Meredith brings a tremendous amount of experience and a proven track record of building competitive programs, developing student-athletes and creating a positive team culture. Her success at Cornell, combined with her leadership experience in athletics administration makes her an outstanding fit for Husson. We are excited about the future of our women's lacrosse program under her leadership."
A native of Oakhurst, N.J., Meier took over Cornell's women's lacrosse program in October 2015 and steadily elevated the Rams into a perennial conference tournament contender. Over her final four seasons, Cornell collected 35 victories and earned four consecutive conference tournament appearances.
Meier guided the Rams to their most successful season in program history in 2024, posting a school-record 13 victories against just four defeats. Cornell finished third in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference standings with a 3-2 conference record, established 15 team records and ranked fourth nationally in NCAA Division III in ground balls per game, averaging 28.0.
The historic campaign followed another milestone season in 2023, when Meier led Cornell to a 10-8 record and the program's first-ever Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament appearance as the No. 4 seed.
Cornell continued its postseason success in 2025, hosting its first conference tournament game in program history during its inaugural season in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The Rams returned to the conference tournament in 2026 as the No. 6 seed, extending their streak of postseason appearances to four consecutive seasons.
Throughout her tenure, Meier established a reputation for developing talented student-athletes on both ends of the field. Since 2023, Cornell has produced 21 all-conference selections, including consecutive Conference Defensive Player of the Year honorees in India Smith (2023) and Ilsa Jeffery (2024).
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Husson community," said Meier. "For me, coaching has always been about the relationships you build and the impact you can have on student-athletes, both on and off the field. I'm excited to continue building on the strong foundation that is already in place, getting to know the team and what we can accomplish together."
Beyond her success on the sidelines, Meier brings extensive athletics administration experience to Husson. She served as Cornell's Senior Woman Administrator, initially in an interim capacity in 2024 before assuming the position on a permanent basis in June 2025. In that role, she provided leadership in budgeting, hiring, program development, student-athlete welfare and departmental operations while overseeing five varsity programs and the athletic training department.
Meier also served as Cornell's compliance coordinator, helping ensure adherence to NCAA and conference regulations while overseeing student-athlete eligibility, required certifications and institutional compliance procedures.
Her commitment to student-athlete development extended beyond competition. From September 2022 through May 2024, Meier served as Cornell's Student-Athlete Coordinator of Mental Health and Performance, developing programming centered on leadership, mental well-being and athletic performance. She also advised Cornell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2017-21 and organized workshops focused on leadership and personal development.
Meier's contributions to the Rams' athletics department earned her Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Coach of the Year recognition in both 2015-16 and 2016-17. She was also recognized as the Ed Thomas Coach of the Week in 2017.
Prior to arriving at Cornell, Meier served as the head junior varsity girls lacrosse coach at Red Bank Catholic High School in New Jersey from 2013-15. She also spent time coaching youth lacrosse, gaining valuable experience in player development and program instruction.
A 2013 graduate of New England College in Henniker, N.H., Meier enjoyed a standout collegiate playing career for the Pilgrims. A four-year starter at midfield and defense, she appeared in 70 career games, totaling 55 goals and 13 assists.
As a senior in 2013, Meier captained the Pilgrims and earned North Atlantic Conference All-Conference recognition after leading the team with 29 goals and 38 points. She was also named New England College's Female Athlete of the Year for the 2012-13 academic year.
Meier earned team Most Valuable Player honors as both a sophomore and senior and helped guide New England College to the 2012 North Atlantic Conference East Division championship match.
Her playing experience also extended internationally, competing for the American International Sports Team that captured tournament championships in Munich, Germany, and Prague, Czech Republic, in 2012.
Before her collegiate career, Meier was an all-conference soccer and lacrosse standout at Ocean Township High School in New Jersey, where she served as a senior captain of the lacrosse team in 2009.
Meier earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from New England College in 2013 and holds certifications in CPR, first aid and Mental Health First Aid.
Meier takes over a women's lacrosse program that has won two-consecutive NAC championships and returns the reigning NAC co-player of the year Kate Boehmcke and reigning NAC rookie of the year Lauren Small.
