CASTINE, Maine – The Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association revealed its weekly awards Wednesday and Husson University women's basketball freshman
Sophia Carnes was named rookie of the week.
Carnes earned rookie of the week in the North Atlantic Conference for a second time this season after she stepped into a bigger role for Husson this past weekend due to an injury, a role in which she thrived in during wins over the top two teams in the NAC entering the week (UMaine Farmington and Maine Maritime Academy) to pull into a three-way tie for first-place in the conference, while also falling during the week to top-10 nationally ranked Bowdoin College. Carnes recorded 15 points on five made three-pointers against MMA, in addition to three trifectas against UMF and two against Bowdoin to help the Eagles to a solid week and pull into a three-way tie for first-place in the North Atlantic Conference.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they head north to battle the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 3 p.m.
