WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference announced its weekly awards for women's basketball on Monday and Husson University women's basketball sophomore
Saige Evans earned her third-straight player of the week award and freshman
Sophia Carnes was named rookie of the week.
Evans continued her run of double-doubles this past week in a 2-1 stretch for Husson, as it defeated the top two teams in the NAC entering the week (UMaine Farmington and Maine Maritime Academy) to pull into a three-way tie for first-place in the conference, while also falling during the week to top-10 nationally ranked Bowdoin College. Evans tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds against Bowdoin, totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds versus Farmington and concluded her week with a 14-point, 11-rebound, four-assist performance against MMA. Evans has now posted a double-double in nine-consecutive games.
Carnes earned rookie of the week for a second time this season after she stepped into a bigger role for Husson this past weekend due to an injury, a role in which she thrived in. Carnes recorded 15 points on five made three-pointers against MMA, in addition to three trifectas against UMF and two against Bowdoin to help the Eagles to a solid week and pull into a three-way tie for first-place in the North Atlantic Conference.
Husson will be back in action on Saturday when it heads to the University of Maine-Presque Isle for a 3 p.m. contest.
